Welcome back, Shit Givers.

I’m pretty under the weather this week, and so is the rest of my family, so this week’s edition is brief.

Thanks for understanding, and I’ll be back at you next Friday with the full enchilada.

Team Work Makes the Dream Work

What’s a Civilian Climate Corps?

Some history: The Civilian Conservation Corps was a major part of FDR’s New Deal -- a voluntary public work relief program for unemployed, unmarried men 18-28.

The program helped a lot of folks dig out of the Great Depression (3 million, to be exact).

And holy cow did they get a lot done.

They planted billions of trees, fought fires, re-seeded lands, built wildlife refuges and trails, animal shelters, and more.

Flash forward almost a hundred years, and a 1.5 million member Civilian Climate Corps is a VERY popular part of President Biden’s infrastructure (read: secret climate change) bill.

77% of voters support it, including 65% of Republicans. WTF.

What it means: For all the talk about international conglomerates polluting the skies and carbon tariffs, the climate crisis is really a local problem -- and opportunity.

Folks in a program like this could not only affect the air, water, and soil of their own towns, but go on to long-term careers on climate-related fields.

Congress needs to drop enough cash to fund a new grant program for local orgs, to create a new, centralized federal initiative to model the whole thing, and to pivot existing federal corps programs to tackle climate work.

And they just might do it.

⚡️ Action Step: If you’ve ever wondered “where the hell did Joe Biden get all these fancy climate plans anyways”, you’ve come to the right place.

The not-so-secret authors are the kickass crew at Evergreen Action.

Read their excellent report on how to build a CCC, and then donate to support their continued work on an all-out national mobilization to defeat the climate crisis and create 8 million jobs in a clean energy economy.

I’m back next week at full strength. Thanks for reading, and thanks for giving a shit.
